From Hugh Grant's Prime Minister getting the hots for his chubby(?) secretary to Colin Firth's recently dumped writer forming a hasty bond with a woman he's never had a coherent conversation with, Richard Curtis' smash hit ensemble comedy posits that love can blossom in all sorts of unusual places. Well, for straight white men, anyway...
Join us as we debate whether there's any hope for Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman's failing marriage, discuss why Andrew Lincoln will probably end up murdering Kiera Knightley and wearing her skin as a sarong, and argue that Martin Freeman and Joanna Page's dry-humping body doubles may actually have the healthiest relationship in the whole movie...
We also pitch some drinking games for the movie - because by God, you'll need them - and come up with our own fantasy sequels, one of which is considerably more optimistic than the other...

A horror-comedy about a Bavarian Christmas demon who feasts on the flesh of naughty children? Starring Adam Scott, Toni Collette and a gun-toting Conchata Ferrell? On paper Krampus sounds like our kind of holiday movie... but a messy script and a lot of uncomfortable tonal shifts left us feeling a little disappointed.
That said, there was enough visual invention and dark humour in Michael Dougherty's 2015 take on this twisted European folk tale to give us plenty to talk about in this episode. Join us as we discuss ambiguously Austrian grannies, psychotic gingerbread men and the right way to incorporate baby-eating into a family comedy...
As always, we also brainstorm a few drinking games - including neglectful parenting, inappropriate reactions and instances of 'Adam Scott face' - before coming up with some fantasy sequel ideas. Would a twisted take on Tim Allen's The Santa Clause or an action-packed Stranger Things crossover help this franchise to achieve a more comfortable balance of horror and comedy? It's a family affair on Beyond The Box Set this week, as Harry's brother Sam Chappell pops by to pitch sequels for one of the funniest, saddest and most depraved British movies ever made - Withnail and I, starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann.
Released in 1987, Bruce Robinson's semi-autobiographical black comedy was a low-budget independent movie that became one of the most widely quoted cult classics of the era.
Join us as we discuss Camberwell Carrots, questionable cooking, John's extremely in-depth theory about Marwood's latent homosexuality and the classic line from this movie that has haunted us for years...
Discussing drinking games for this film seem almost moot given it practically invented the concept, but in lieu of downing lighter fluid, we came up with some slightly less lethal alternatives.
We also discussed some sequel ideas including an alcohol-fuelled origin story, a bittersweet reunion in the late 90s, and a possibly un-filmable psychological study into the intense co-dependence of the two lead characters.

In the second instalment of our special Halloween mini-series, Harry and John enjoy some prime Bette Midler scenery chewing in the all-time seasonal classic that is Hocus Pocus.
Released in 1993, Hocus Pocus starred Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson Sisters - a trio of legendary witches who return to their home town of Salem with a vengeance after a troubled teen unwittingly brings them back from the dead. A critical and commercial disappointment on release, the movie is now justly regarded as a riotously entertaining seasonal classic.
Join us as we discuss virgin shaming, fabulous musical numbers and the boldness of opening a children's movie with an infanticide scene. We also come up with some party-friendly Hocus Pocus drinking games, mix in some alternative readings and try to imagine what the long-rumoured sequel to this movie might actually look like.

Tyrion Lannister and Abed from Community in a comedy horror movie about Live Action Roleplay? Sounds like a recipe for hilarity. Sadly, the reality of obscure box office bomb Knights of Badassdom turns out to be rather different…
This week on Beyond The Box Set, we sat through 85 tortuous minutes of olde worlde accents, nonsensical plot exposition screamed out by wildly overacting TV stars and genuinely incompetent filmmaking – then attempt to justify a sequel.
Join us as we discuss – among other things – Peter Dinklage’s genuinely uncomfortable acting choices, Danny Pudi being given literally nothing to do in this movie and the bizarre plot mechanics of Summer Glau’s relationship with her dangerously disturbed cousin.
Despite the fact that this is very possibly the worst film we’ve ever covered – yes, even worse than the Super Mario Bros. movie – we do have some ideas for what the sequel might look like, including a Lego version with a much starrier cast and an origin story that attempts to explain how Peter Dinklage’s agent tricked him into appearing in this garbage movie in the first place…
