Monday Nov 09, 2020
Monday Nov 09, 2020
After Absolutely Anything proved to be absolutely abysmal, we decided we needed to look at a better representation of Robin Williams' talents. The Fisher King is his 1992 collaboration with director Terry Gilliam, and it scored him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
Tune into this week's podcast to hear our thoughts on Jeff Bridges titanium-plated likability, Mercedes Ruehl's scene-stealing performance, the golden era of VHS rental stores, the thin line between love and stalking and much more...

Room To Breathe
Monday Apr 27, 2020
Monday Apr 27, 2020
With the world in turmoil and no end to the global lockdown in sight, we're all feeling a little fragile right now. In other words, it's the perfect time to indulge in some lighthearted, escapist comfort cinema to distract from the harsher realities of post-Coronavirus life. Unfortunately, Harry made a different choice this week, so we're watching Room.
Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and starring Brie Larson, Joan Allen and Jacob Tremblay, Room tells the harrowing story of a young woman struggling to protect her five-year old son from the harsh realities of life in captivity, after spending seven years locked in the tiny back yard shed of a sadistic kidnapper. Highly acclaimed on release, it earned Larson a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress. A feelgood romp though, it is not.
Tune into this week's episode to hear our thoughts on lockdown coping techniques, who cried the most during this movie, our toughest drinking game challenge yet and of course, sequel pitches.
We promise we'll have something a bit less emotionally draining on the table next week...

Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
With all due respect to Glenn Close, Olivia Colman's surprise Best Actress win was one of the clear highlights of last year's Oscars. So, as the dust settles on this year's ceremony, we decided to revisit the film that made it all possible - Yorgos Lanthimos' delightfully odd historical romp The Favourite.
Tune in for our thoughts on tantrums, tiaras, towering wigs and much more as we pitch sequel ideas fit for a queen.

Fargo 2: Murder in Minnesota
Friday Nov 15, 2019
Friday Nov 15, 2019
With winter rapidly drawing in, a chilly thriller set in the frozen climes of the American Midwest seemed like an appropriate choice for this week's episode. Released in 1996, Fargo is one of the Coen Brothers' most beloved movies, and one of the most acclaimed and influential pictures of its time.
On this week's episode, we discuss breaking our only rule - yes, we're aware of the TV show - iconic accent work, Gunderson relationship goals, the endless joy of watching Steve Buscemi take physical and verbal abuse, and much more...
We also brainstorm some Fargo drinking games and pitch some sequel ideas to find out what the survivors of the original film might be up to 25 years later. Is it worth a listen? Yer darn tootin'!

Oliver's Orphanage of Opportunity!
Friday Sep 20, 2019
Friday Sep 20, 2019
A spectacular Dickensian musical that traumatised multiple generations of children, Carol Reed's Oliver! is a bona fide classic... but somehow in fifty years, it's never been granted a direct sequel.
Far be it from us to claim we can top Charles Dickens for creativity, but with the great man long dead, we're sure he won't mind us stepping into his shoes for a while. Aussie Nerd Daniel Tickner joins us to share his love of (the first half of) this movie, and to discuss important matters such as the uncomfortable sexiness of Bill Sykes, The Artful Dodger's excellent colour co-ordination and why this movie's title character kind of sucks...

Django & Broomhilda: Slingers Against Slavers
Friday Sep 06, 2019
Friday Sep 06, 2019
Quentin Tarantino's tribute to spaghetti westerns, Django Unchained certainly packs a punch - not to mention some capital letters ACTING from an Oscar-hungry Leonardo DiCaprio, an Oscar-winning Christof Waltz and a barely-recognisable Samuel L. Jackson...
In this week's podcast we discuss revisionist history, Jamie Foxx's impeccable suit game, the unexpected origin of Big Daddy corp. and much more as we explore the further adventures of Django and his disappointingly passive bride.

The Shawshank Redemption 2: Shawshank Resurrection
Friday Aug 16, 2019
Friday Aug 16, 2019
Thinly veiled Jesus allegory? Platonic gay love story? The greatest movie of all time? Depending on who you ask, The Shawshank Redemption could be any and all of the above. One thing everybody can agree on - this adaptation of Stephen King's short story is a very popular film, despite the fact that virtually nobody originally saw it in the cinema.
In this week's podcast we're joined by Harry's brother Sam to discuss the mysterious appeal of Shawshank, Morgan Freeman's iconic narration, the mysterious heteronormative power of IMDB voters and much more, before subjecting this screen classic to the greatest test of all - trial by theoretical sequel!
